Election Signs and Cruelty

Okay, first let me begin by saying that I’m not really pro-choice. I don’t like the idea of abortion AT ALL and quite frankly, I don’t see myself ever being able to take away a baby’s life (even if it’s not technically a life yet – I know there’s a lot of debate about that). However, I do understand how hard it must be for women who become pregnant (especially due to rape) to have to choose between taking care of a child that they’re not ready for or having to choose abortion. It’s a horrible choice to have to make. Period.

Yesterday while out, my brother pointed out an election sign. The sign was for Trump. As many of you know, I don’t like him and I DO NOT support him. That has nothing to do though with why I’m writing this post though. The reason for this post is because the sign said something awful. I’m not sure the exact words, but it had to do with voting for Trump and not ‘the baby killer’. This sign made me extremely angry.

First of all, Hilary Clinton is not ‘a baby killer’. She just supports the choice for women to get abortions. Also, a sign like that not only puts Clinton down, but more importantly it puts all the women down who felt forced to choose abortion. Hell, it insults all women. As stated by my dad, no one really wants to get an abortion. I’m pretty sure no woman gets excited about having to end a child’s life (whether it’s already considered a life or would become one eventually). No, women hate having to make that decision and a lot of times it takes quite an emotional toll. I myself have never had to go through such a scary process nor do I know anyone who has, but I imagine it’s quite difficult.

My main point here is that this kind of hatred is wrong. I understand that a lot of times people get rowdy around election time, but this type of behavior is inexcusable. If you want to put Trump signs up and display your love for him, fine (okay actually this drives me crazy and I want to knock them down, but again, not the point). If you want to put signs up supporting Hilary Clinton, that’s also fine. Whatever. However, don’t add comments that are hurtful. Maybe this individual didn’t realize that the comment comes off as directed to more than just one individual – more than to just Hilary Clinton. Really though, he or she probably did know.

I know that election time is usually anything but peaceful. I find that a bit ridiculous. I know that there’s a lot of competition and while that makes sense, I think we can be a lot more respectful and graceful about the whole thing. Why can’t we just vote for who we want to vote for, maybe display the signs (without the extra hatred, of course), and go about our way? I’m not saying we can’t talk about what we believe in, but do we have to be so hateful about it? NO!

The last thing we need to add to the world is hatred. We need to add peace. Please remember that during election time and really, always! Thanks for listening!
